How does image to voxel conversion work here?
The image is sampled to a grid with at most 8, 16 or 24 pixels on its longest side. Visible pixels at or above the alpha cutoff become cubes extruded to the same selected depth. Internal faces between adjacent cubes are omitted; hidden sides of a pictured object are not reconstructed.
Why does my JPG keep a rectangular background?
JPG has no transparency, so its background pixels become blocks too. Use a PNG with a transparent background for a cutout. Transparency adjusts the alpha cutoff; it does not remove an opaque background or select an object.
Can I download a MagicaVoxel VOX file or an animated voxel model?
This tool exports a static GLB, an OBJ/MTL ZIP or STL. It does not export VOX, Minecraft schematics, animation or sprite sheets. GLB retains the sampled pixel colors; this OBJ export and STL keep geometry without those per-pixel colors.
Does this generate a full 3D object from a photo or text prompt?
It creates a block extrusion of the image, with the same depth for every visible pixel. There is no prompt input or AI reconstruction here. Use Image to 3D when you want an AI model of a pictured object.
Is this free and can I print the STL?
The tool and downloads are free, with no sign-up or credits. Images up to 8 MB and 24 million pixels are processed locally. STL uses model units: choose a physical size in your slicer and inspect disconnected parts and geometry before printing. A successful preview is not a printability check.
